Tasted blind at Farr Vintners' horizontal, the 2006 Les Pagodes de Cos has a rather lackluster bouquet with thin red berry fruit, soy and earthy aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin and a simple smoky finish, suggesting that this is coming to the end of its drinking plateau. Tasted April 2016.

Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Fresh and spiny on the nose. Clean and fresh. Fairly light-bodied but racy with sufficiently mature tannins. (JR)
Ripe, integrated fruit aromas and some definite work on the tannins. Very competently made but not that much concentration and a slight lack of soul and character. (JR)
(a 50/50 blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot) Bright, deep ruby-red. Bright aromas of cassis, licorice, violet and smoked meat. Juicy and on the lean side but with good flavor intensity and subtle sweetness. Not a fleshy style but boasts good fruit and spine. The tannins are a bit dusty and dry.

Louis Gaspard d’Estournel inherited Cos and Pomys in 1791, founding Cos d’Estournel in 1811, investing significantly in the property and expanding the estate from 14 to 45 hectares. The estate rapidly rose to prominence and the wines were exported around the world.
