Much more evolved than the Cuvée Tradition from the same vintage, the 2010 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes unloads dried herbs, figs, white mushrooms and forest floor on the nose. Chalky tannins provide solid structure yet take away some of the wine’s elegance. A full-throttle Châteauneuf from the blockbuster years, this is better consumed sooner rather than later.

Just about pure perfection, the 2010 Châteauneuf Du Pape Chante Le Merle Vieilles Vignes reveals a dense purple hue as well as a smorgasbord-like array of darker fruits, peppery garrigue, saddle leather, lavender, and exotic spices. Incredibly Provençal, full-bodied, massively concentrated, yet flawlessly balanced, this is drinking at point today, with both beautiful fruit and building complexity. Count yourself lucky if you have some of this in the cellar! It will last for another 10-15 years.
Inky ruby. A heady, exotically perfumed bouquet displays scents of raspberry and cherry liqueur, sandalwood, potpourri and woodsmoke. Intensely spicy and precise on the palate, which offers juicy red fruit flavors and suggestions of candied flowers and spicecake. Velvety tannins add shape to a strikingly long, smooth and floral-accented finish that shows outstanding energy and clarity.
