Note di degustazione
Now on the downslope, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Chante le Merle Vieilles Vignes remains a pleasurable drinking experience. It's bricking throughout, showing hints of clove, horse leather and pepper on the nose. It's still full-bodied but a bit rustic, in a good, smoky, enjoyable way. Drink up.

Bright, dark red. Highly aromatic nose of raspberry, fruitcake, pepper, leather, licorice and gingerbread. Intensely flavored and spicy, with youthful flavors of berry skin and pepper. Sharply delineated, firm and peppery, with the structure to age. Still rather tightly wound and in need of at least four or five years of aging. This has turned out well.
Very, very deep crimson (slightly too ripe). This lacks freshness . There is acid and tannin and not enough fruit to link the two. (JR)
