Domaine bottling: So much paler! Haunting, fresh, lively and so delicate! The score above is for the domaine bottling – arguably the best so far. This wine dances, and somehow shows a bit of meat extract. François Audouze thinks that in the range of 1955 red burgundies, it's not so great. It'll do me. Van der Meulen bottling: Worryingly dark rich ruby, tarry and thick. Surely this wine is North African? So sweet. Carignan, Cinsault, and Alicante Bouschet? Is there Algerian in it? No, says François Audouze, Quinta do Noval. Harsh and rude. (JR)
