Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2019-2041, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Jun 2009

The 2006 Sena is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot, and the balance Carmenere and Cabernet Franc, all of the original Bordeaux grapes except Malbec. It was aged in new French oak for 18 months. It delivers a superb aromatic array of wood smoke, pencil lead, espresso, incense, blackcurrant, and blackberry. This is followed by a Pauillac-like, concentrated yet elegant wine with layers of spicy fruit, well-concealed structure, superb grip, and a fruit-filled, lengthy finish. Like a great vintage of Bordeaux, it will profit from a minimum of a decade of cellaring. Its prime drinking window will extend from 2019 to 2041. Sena was once a partnership between Robert Mondavi and Eduardo Chadwick that produced its first wine in 1995. Following the collapse of the Mondavi empire, Chadwick regained complete control and is making the finest wines of his distinguished career. The Sena vineyard, located in Aconcagua, is farmed biodynamically. Importer: Frederick Wildman and Sons, New York, NY; Tel: (212) 355-0700

Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2012-2020, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2009

Tasted blind Exceptionally deep crimson, Slightly raw cassis. Deep crimson. Sweet initial impression with slightly green top notes [because of the Carmenère component?]. Amazing depth of colour. The deepest wine of the lot. Chile. (JR)

(55% cabernet sauvignon, 16% merlot, 13% petit verdot, 10% carmenere and 6% cabernet franc) Deep ruby. Cherry-vanilla, blackberry and cola on the nose, with suave floral and smoky mineral qualities adding complexity. Plump and sweet, with deep dark berry and vanilla flavors framed by velvety tannins. Repeats the cherry and cola notes on the long, sweet finish. Showing a lot of oak influence today, but there seems to be ample fruit to handle it. Still, I'd like to have seen more of the fruit and less of the trees.

Seña 1:1
Seña

Seña – literally meaning “signal” – was Chile’s first icon wine. In the early 1990s, the country had a reputation mainly for lower-end, high-volume wines, but Eduardo Chadwick, owner and president of Viña Errázuriz, set out to change that.
