Striking nose of herbal liqueur, savory notes and blackberry jelly. Much more black and blue fruit on the generous medium- to full-bodied palate than in the nose. Very satisfying balance of ripeness and well-crafted tannins at the front, then good roasted-meat character on the mid-palate, but the finish is a bit short and simple compared with that. From a cool vintage in which the harvest was very late. A cuvee of 90% cabernet sauvignon, 5% carmenere and 5% merlot. Drink or hold. 20th Anniversary Berlin Tasting Event, February 2024.

Bright medium ruby. Wild plum, cassis, violet, meat, toffee, roasted nuts and slight vegetal notes of bell pepper and asparagus. Rich, chewy and dense, with black cherry flavor and crushed blackberry flavors complicated by notes of meat, espresso and tobacco. Firmly structured but also sweet and suave. Finishes with even, tongue-coating tannins that are reasonably ripe.

Seña 1:1
Seña

Seña – literally meaning “signal” – was Chile’s first icon wine. In the early 1990s, the country had a reputation mainly for lower-end, high-volume wines, but Eduardo Chadwick, owner and president of Viña Errázuriz, set out to change that.
