The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers is one of the more immediate of the 1er Crus at Taupenot-Merme. A burst of dark red fruit flows through to the juicy, expressive finish. The firm tannins need time to soften, but I don’t see the Pruliers ever becoming as refined as the very best wines in this lineup. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2025. Romain Taupenot lost between 25-40% of his 2010 production to the poor weather, although some of his lower lying parcels were down as much as 80%. Fortunately the Grand Crus were down only 15% on average. The harvest began on September 23. Taupenot reported that the fruit required some sorting in the winery. A densely fruited and notably ripe mix of red currant, plum, cassis and plenty of pungent and warm earth influence. The density continues onto the impressive concentrated medium weight plus flavors that possess good power and a plenitude of dry extract that confers a velvety palate impression, all wrapped into the mouth coating, explosive and outstandingly long finish.
