2009 Nuits St Georges Les Pruliers

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers wafts from the glass with freshly cut flowers, sweet spices, smoke and red berries, all supported by fine, but youthful tannins. The aromas and flavors are quite open and expressive, but the tannins need another few years in bottle to soften further. For now, the Pruliers is a wine for the cellar. The inner purity, sweetness and breadth all hold significant promise. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. My tasting with Denis and Bertrand Chevillon was one of the highlights of my most recent trip to Burgundy. The domaine’s 2009s are flat-out beautiful. Readers will not want to miss these gems. Good bright medium red. More minerally on the nose than the Chaignots, showing redcurrant and darker berry aromas along with a strong leathery nuance: very Nuits. Sweet and lush in the mouth, at once solid and generous, with dark fruit and mineral flavors dominating. Fresher than the Chaignots; in fact, a tad reduced and in need of aeration. Finishes with suaver tannins and excellent length.

Bright, deep red. Very reduced nose opens slowly to reveal scents and flavors of red berries, herbs, spices and pepper. Supple and silky on entry, then less round in the middle, even a bit youthfully imploded. In a more masculine style but still silky and seamless. Finishes with broad, fine-grained tannins and very good spreading length.
