The extremely reserved nose is quite similar to that of the Suchots but with more spice and the same distinct floral notes that introduce beautifully detailed, nicely complex but very understated, indeed almost backward middle weight flavors that finish with a regal austerity. This is not for those who like "friendly" young burgs and it will require several years to shed its youthful shell. In short, this is presently an exercise in understatement yet with great potential and breed.

Spicy red fruit scents are found in the nose of the 2002 Romanee-St.-Vivant. Light to medium-bodied, it is plush, soft, satin-textured and displays delightfully pure red cherry and oak flavors. (just two barrels made, vs. 3-1/4 in 1999) Moderately saturated medium red. Complex aromas of raspberry, Oriental spices, smoke, earth and sexy oak. Juicy, nuanced and intense, with complex notes of spice, earth and underbrush. Offers a lush texture, sweet tannins and lovely length.
