Second bottle much better. Full, toasty nose. Broad, maximum extraction of flavour but without any excess of tannin. This wine somehow manages to be relatively low in acidity! A good medium-term drink. Powerful for a 2002. (JR)

Although somewhat lean and austere, the 2002 offers attractive ripe cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with notions of damp earth, spice box, and new wood. It is a pleasing, but restrained, angular Haut-Medoc to consume over the next 7-8 years.
Deep crimson. Full, sweet, round, and ripe. Definite acidity and some greenness, but real guts. Quite sturdy and very fresh without awkward acidity. Sandy tannins still marked. (JR)
Very dark purple. Brutal impact on the nose. Quite a standout on the nose and then – where are all the tannins? It's as though this sample has been denatured because it is soft (though not lacking in acidity) relative to the others. Difficult to rate. (JR)
Informazioni sul produttore

A stone’s throw from Saint-Julien, Ch. de Camensac was long underperforming, but – under the ownership of the Merlaut-Villars family – was totally restructured, and quality transformed.
