The 1998 Larcis Ducasse is a vintage that I have not tasted for a very long time. To be honest, I find the nose a little frail and one-dimensional considering the precocity on the Right Bank that year - light red fruit, rose petals and leather, but little in the way of vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy tannins, moderate weight but surprisingly think for a 1998 and this property, with a four square finish that does not stick in the memory. I wonder how much this 1998 has left in the tank? Tasted at the Larcis Ducasse vertical in Bordeaux.

Sweet tobacco, truffle, white pepper and dried cherry give the 1998 Larcis Ducasse much of its lifted, aromatic personality. Early tertiary notes have begun to develop in the glass that add to the wine's completeness today. A mid-weight, gracious Larcis, the 1998 will drink well for another 10-15 years, perhaps more. Like the 2000, the 1998 presents a decidedly delicate, understated expression of this site.
The 1998 exhibits a dark ruby color, a herbaceous, sweet, black cherry, mineral, olive, cedar, and spice box-scented bouquet, medium body, light tannin, and a short finish. It is a wine to consume over the next 7-10 years.
Lots of wet earth, berry and leather aromas in this lovely red. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Best after 2006. 4,165 cases made. – James Suckling , Wine Spectator 2001
