The 1978 is medium dark ruby with some amber at the edge. The wine has begun to develop a musty, old-barrel aroma that detracts from the otherwise cedary, spicy, black fruit character. In the mouth, there is a sense of fatness. The astringent tannins in the finish suggest that perhaps there is not enough fruit for the amount of tannin. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 8/88.
