A delicious, fruit-forward wine with loads of smoke, charcoal, blackcurrants, and cherries, this is medium-bodied, soft, and relatively evolved for a 2005. Drink it over the next decade.

Dry rather than sweet but just a little lifeless. (JR)
Fresh cassis and a touch of menthol. A little spirity just now. Dry and leafy on the palate. Seems to lack some of the richness of the vintage but still elegant. Moderate length. (JH) One of 56 Pessac-Léognan reds that were tasted blind in London for Decanter magazine in July 2008.
Respectably deep colour. Sweet, ripe quite opulent nose. Good effort but needs a little more flesh. Very fresh and aromatic – unusually so for this vintage. Full, broad sweep across the palate but the fruit is not very subtle. Good texture but no great intensity of flavour. A bit skinny. Some inky tannins. Good try but just a little austere on the back palate. Quite a lot of oak! (JR)
