The 2009 Nuits St. Georges La Richemone Ultra bursts onto the palate with an exciting array of black fruit, tar, smoke and licorice. Voluptuous fruit and considerable energy come together beautifully in this deep, resonant Nuits. Here, too, the wine’s energy is utterly compelling. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. I was deeply impressed with Christophe Perrot-Minot’s 2009s. The wines are rich and powerful in the Perrot-Minot style, yet also shine with tons of energy. New oak was 20% for the village level wines, 30% for the premier crus and 30-50% for the grand crus, topping out at 50% for the Chambertin. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-040

Deep red-ruby. Much fruitier on the nose than the regular Richemone, with cassis, blackberry and minerals dominating. A creamy yet firm fruit bomb in the mouth, with a solid tannic spine framing and extending the dark fruit, spice and menthol flavors. The very long finish combines noble tannins, intense fruit and terrific lift. But this needs a decade in the cellar.
(from vines originally planted in 1902) Ruby-red. Cassis, blackberry and crushed stone minerality on the nose; initially reminded me of a claret. Then powerful and urgent in the mouth, with lively peppery acidity giving lift to the blackberry and mineral flavors. The wine's density is cut by a saline quality. A bit youthfully imploded but the wine's juicy tannins give the finish a surprisingly light touch. The black pepper element repeats on the back end. This boasts grand cru texture and nuance.
