Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2014

Olivier Bernstein's 2011 Charmes-Chambertin is made from parcels in both Mazoyeres and Charmes proper. Dark red stone fruits, spices, new leather and licorice grace the palate in a beautiful, supple Charmes built on pure texture and resonance. The 2011 is just as pretty in bottle as it was in barrel.

(mostly Charmes, with some Mazoyeres): Good deep red. Deep, musky red fruits and underbrush on the nose. Rather lush in texture but with subtle earth and herb notes and gripping acidity giving shape to the middle palate. Serious tannins clamp down on the finish. This will need time.

Good bright ruby-red. Deep, musky aromas of game, smoke and minerals. Utterly silky and fine-grained yet racy too, offering highly concentrated flavors of black fruits, licorice and violet. The finish features substantial ripe tannins, with sappy acidity giving the wine real grip and length.

Dark crimson. More savoury and lifted than the premiers crus. Serious and well balanced – quite sinewy. Juicy and polished. Sweet but with some savour too. Fine tannins there on the finish. (JR)
