Punteggio 94-96/100 · Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Jul 2006

Moderate ruby colour with not much ageing on the rim. Quite a broody nose at first, complex with notes of cherry liqueur, cocoa. Backward, very tight. The palate is certainly Grand Cru. Very harmonious, filigree tannins and yet structured, superb fruit concentration. Wild strawberry, cranberry, raspberry. There is real attack here, superb definition. I think this is beginning to close up, but great potential. An possibly under-rated wine and great value.

The medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Charmes-Chambertin has boisterous, sweet red cherry aromas. Medium-bodied and supple, it reveals loads of red and black cherry fruit in its fresh yet firm personality. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.

Full medium red. Floral, sappy aromas of red fruits, nuts and game. Tangy red fruit flavors are kept bright by healthy ripe acidity. Finishes with very good length and grip. An unusually strong showing for this cuvee.
