Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2018-2038, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, May 2011

The 2008 Charmes-Chambertin is virtually impenetrable. This is a decidedly cool, inward Charmes in need of considerable time in bottle. It couldn’t be more different than the subtle, expressive 2009. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2038. Bernard Dugat farms 10 hectares of vineyards, 6.5 of which he and his family own outright. The Dugat-Py wines are breathtaking for their richness and depth. Despite their sheer concentration, the wines retain tons of vineyard and vintage character. These are some of the most viscerally thrilling, exciting wines I tasted on my recent trip through Burgundy. The only 2009 I wasn’t able to taste was the Pommard, which had been bottled just prior to my visit. Importer: Peter Weygandt, Unionville, PA; tel. (610) 486-0800

Bright, deep red-ruby. Precise but restrained aromas of cassis, black raspberry, violet and licorice. Powerful, slightly peppery acidity gives this wine a youthfully tight structure, but there's just enough buffering sweetness here to provide balance. A distinctly powerful style of Charmes (like the '09 here) with a very long, floral finish displaying excellent lift. I'd like to come back to this one in ten years.

(this has been two-thirds Charmes and one-third Mazoyeres since the 2006 vintage) Bright ruby-red. Vibrant nose offers blackberry, boysenberry, violet and licorice. Big, brooding and powerful, with very tight, primary black fruit flavors showing impressive sweetness but also a powerful spine of acids and molar-coating tannins. This wine is in a shell today and needs more elevage Dugat used barely 15% to 20% of the stems here.

Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2013-2019, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2009

100% new oak. 15-20% whole bunch. Again a lack of aroma – I wonder whether tasting in such a warm cellar (for MLF) has an effect. This contains a third Mazoyères. Very juicy and succulent fruit on the palate. Certainly very glossy and charming even though at the moment there is still a little bit of fizz. MLF finished in Aug. (JR)
