Expected 4 November. Very deep orange – one of the deepest coloured Suduirauts I have come across! Very much the ancien régime with a hint of rot. Not the finest. Not bad value but nothing like today’s super-fresh and precise wines. (JR)

The 1999 Suduiraut has an intense, slightly petrolly bouquet that in an odd way, feels as if it comes from an older era than succeeding vintages, which is true when you consider that Christian Seely took over in 2001. The palate is well balanced with plenty of mandarin, Clementine and quince. I admire the depth of this 1999 Sauternes and perhaps it misses the precision on the finish, although it does not quite have the length. Tasted at the Suduiraut vertical at the château.
Not nearly as fine as the 2001. A bit more obvious sulfur and less opulent fruit. Still a round hit on the palate but with a bit of cheesiness and a vegetal character. Quite long and still some astringence. A bit ungainly at the moment. (JR)
Fairly pale color. Deep, rich aromas of dried apricot, honey, vanilla and spicy oak. Very sweet apricotty flavors brightened by penetrating acids; has the sheer concentration to handle its strong oak element. Powerfully fruity, structured and young; a compelling combination of sugars and acids. Finish features nutty, spicy oak and outstanding persistence.
