Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2019-2020, Neal Martin, Mar 2019

The 1988 Suduiraut is weaker than the 1989, quite pale in colour with a rather monotone barley sugar nose. The palate is balanced but unapologetically simple with grilled nuts, almond and ginger, but overall there seems to be a lack of botrytis here. Like other Suduirauts from this era, I would drink this soon. 83gm/L residual sugar, 14.8% alcohol. Tasted from a bottle from my personal cellar.

The 1988 reveals a textbook, light gold color with a slight greenish hue. Although it does not display the weight of the 1990 or 1989, it has better acidity, high alcohol, and considerable sweetness. It is somewhat disjointed, needing time to knit together. It is impressive if its components are evaluated separately, but it is less noteworthy when reviewed from an overall perspective. Tasted at the Chateau Suduiraut vertical in London. Lighter in colour than the 1997 poured alongside, the ’88 Suduiraut has a light, simple lime cordial and barley sugar nose that is inoffensive but not profound. The palate has a dry, peppery entry with notes of lanolin, ginger and walnut/smoke towards the finish that shows little evidence of botrytis. I fear that the ’88 is beginning to dry out and so bottles should be approached in the near future. Tasted October 2010. Neal Martin, eRobertParker.com
