Monopole. Lightish crimson. Slightly stemmy dark-red fruit. Fresh, juicy and, although on the lighter side, is nicely balanced. (JH)

The 2012 Mercurey La Famboisiere has a pretty wild strawberry and cranberry-scented bouquet that is generous and lively. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening. It needs a little more backbone on the mid-palate. As it is, this Mercurey has good substance but I would relish its youthful fleshiness rather than leaving it to age. This is simply a delicious Mercurey for early drinking pleasure. Drink now-2018. I tasted a number of barrel samples from Faiveley, but will not publish any notes to respect their stance not to have their wines reviewed in this publication. Pity, because they attested the improvement in quality that I have seen over the last decade. Still, here is a solitary note for a bottled sample shown in London. Importer: Frederic Wildman & Sons (NY) and through several importers in the UK.

Tame, restrained nose and light palate. Undistinguished. (RH)

Good bright red. Medicinal cherry and minerals on the nose. Juicy, tightly wound and penetrating, with good minty lift and strong acidity keeping the wine youthfully lean today. In an awkward stage today but has no shortage of intensity.
