Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2012-2016, Robert Parker, Feb 2012

This is another wonderful repudiation of the myth that all Bordeaux are too expensive. In fact, truth-be-told, only a minority of classified growths and a handful of luxury Pomerols and St.-Emilions are super expensive. Most Bordeaux can be bought at a fair, if not low price, and here is one more example of that. A sexy, seductive, soft, velvety wine with lots of black cherry and black currant fruit along with hints of earth, herbs and background oak, it should be drunk over the next 3-4 years.

Blackberry skin and currant on the nose. Medium-bodied, with sultanas, fine tannins and a clean, fruity finish

Tasted at Cercle Rive Droite in London. Deep garnet colour. Blackberry, a touch of cassis, quite minerally with good definition, hints of creme brulee in the background. Firm tannins, full-bodied, chocolate tinged black fruits, dusty tannins with a stern finish that needs a little more perisistancy. Not bad overall though. Tasted March 2010.

This property used to be owned by Stephan Asseo, a former St.-Emilion resident now living in Paso Robles and making the wines of L’Aventure. The 2009, a blend of 70% Merlot and the rest the two Cabernets, exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color and an elegant nose suggesting a confiture of red and black fruits, spice box, licorice, and a hint of mint. It is lush, rich in fruit, and a delicious wine to drink now and over the next 5-6 years. This wine, which is now made under consultation with Stephane Derenoncourt, clocks in at 14.7 % natural alcohol. (Tasted three times.)
