Note di degustazione
Made from 100% old vine Merlot, the 2008 Château Peby Faugères is another youthful ruby/purple-tinged beauty. Black cherries, currants, leafy herbs, tobacco, and a hint of truffle all soar from the glass of this full-bodied, ripe, voluptuous effort that's undeniably one of the gems in the vintage. While I think it's firmly in its drink window, it's youthful and has another decade of prime drinking to go. It's a beauty!

The 2008 Péby-Faugeres felt a little overripe on the nose with macerated small black cherries, dates, marmalade and fig jam. It is not unattractive but feels as if the winemaking is speaking louder than the terroir - a lot of coconut-y oak. The palate is sweet and candied with coca and leather infusing the black fruit, then it segues into a rather dry and mealy finish that does not exactly entice you back for another sip. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 10-Year On tasting.
Tasted blind. Lustrous dark crimson. Sweet coconut oak on the nose still. But very polished texture with the tannins well hidden under a great weight of ripe fruit. This may yet emerge to be rather glorious. But for the moment it’s a bit too obviously flashy. Painful finish... (JR)
