Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2026-2035, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Dec 2025

Deep rose red, grilled sandalwood, and here you feel the oak impact a little more clearly than in the earlier vintages. Still a lovely wine, delivering autumnal fruits, cranberry and raspberry, cocoa bean, liquorice, dried grass, tobacco, cigar box, enjoyable. 37hl/h yield, 50% new oak. Harvest September 15 to 23, Jean-Pierre Hugon estate manager.

Smoky black fruits, leafy herbs, chocolate, and a touch or iron all emerge from the 2005 Château Marquis De Terme, a ripe, concentrated Margaux that has a layered, mouth-filling texture, velvety tannins, and outstanding length. It’s a beautiful Margaux to enjoy over the coming 10-15 years.

The 2005 Marquis de Terme is more focused and fresher on the nose, with pure blackberries, wild strawberries, mint and crushed violets. It's pretty youthful, considering that it is now 18 years old. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet, ripe black fruit tinged with iodine and cassis. It's plush and extrovert for a 2005; maybe more recent vintages possess a little more nuance and complexity on the finish. Bottles actually need more time in the cellar for them to reach their peak. Tasted at the Marquis de Terme vertical.

The 2005 Marquis de Terme is marked by hard tannins and vegetal flavors that are impossible to look past.
