Note di degustazione
Full of vigour, ruby red colour as with the 1985, this has a toasted feel, very much campfire and grilled cedar, edges of raspberry puree and dried cranberry, good freshness running through the mid palate keeping both momentum and poise. Good quality, fully tertiary, definitely suggest drinking soon if you have a bottle but it has more than held its own, and is a great reflection of the potential of this estate. Seneclauze family, Jean‑Pierre Hugon manager, as he was for 35 years until 2009, 45% new oak for ageing.

The 1989 Marquis de Terme, which I tasted a few months earlier at the château, has a splendid nose with vital blackberry and raspberry fruit, melted tar, brine and menthol. Lovely delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and very harmonious. This shows a combination of power and elegance that surpasses any other vintage of this era. There's wonderful acidity with just a little allspice mixed with clove on the finish. The 1989 is a hidden gem of the vintage. Tasted at the Marquis de Terme vertical.
The 1989 is an excellent wine, dark ruby, medium to full-bodied, fleshy, and chewy, with low acidity and high alcohol. The expansive, super-ripe, nearly sweet tasting flavors give this wine immense crowd appeal. It should develop quickly. Anticipated maturity: Now-2004.

This Fourth Growth estate has been owned by the same family (the Sénéclauzes) since 1936. Over the last 25 years, later picking, a higher level of sorting and modern winemaking has fine-tuned the quality.
