Raspberry red colour, tawny edged, dried roses and smoked earth. In its tertiary phase, this is a world away from the Château Brown of today, and is beginning to soften. If you have this, open now and you might be pleasantly surprised - ideal from magnum if possible. 40% new oak, Stephane Derenoncourt consultant.

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, this is a beautiful wine from Château Brown (one of the best I have tasted). The color is still a dense opaque plum/garnet/purple, and the wine displays smoke, spice, earth, licorice and loads of black fruits. Medium to full-bodied, pure, ripe and layered, this sleeper of the vintage should drink well for another 15 years.
Restrained, a little fragrant, dusty and slightly leafy dark fruit. More depth on the palate than expected. Very fresh and fruit still fresh. Tannins still gripping but smooth and chocolate textured. Juicy and finely balanced. Good length. (JH)
