Note di degustazione
Bright medium ruby. Slightly porty aromas of crushed cassis, licorice and violet, with a suggestion of candied fruits. Primary and clenched, with rather extractive dark berry flavors. The wine's saline quality contributes to its very dry impression. Quite powerful and young, and not a particularly fruity style of shiraz Today I prefer the balance and texture of this winery's less expensive bottlings.

The exceptional 2001 Shiraz Old Vine (from 110- and 40-year old vines) was aged 24 months in French and American oak, and bottled unfiltered. A saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of creosote, blueberries, blackberries, melted licorice, and a hint of espresso. Sweet and full-bodied, with copious fruit as well as style and grace, it is tempting to say these wines are too big and rich, but they are controlled, with surprisingly fine definition. This 2001 should drink well for 10-15 years. Importer: Benjamin Hammerschlag, Epicurean Wines, Seattle, WA; tel. (206) 923-1376
