Punteggio 91+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2012

Very fresh bright, dark red. Perfumed nose offers black raspberry, menthol and a whiff of meat. Fat, ripe, dense and rich but classically dry; this came across as a bit monolithic and aggressive following the 2010s here. But it's nicely fresh for the vintage in spite of youthfully tough tannins. The broad finish hints at licorice.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Boudots emerges from the glass with sweet dark cherries, flowers and mint. The Boudots is classy and elegant from start to finish, with an open, textured personality that should make it accessible fairly early on. This is an especially soft style of Nuits. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2024. Jean-Nicolas Meo began harvesting on September 12. He did 17-18 days of cuvaison and did one racking before the wines were prepared for bottling. I was not able to taste a handful of wines that were racked just before my visit, including the Cros Parantoux. Meo is among the growers who believe the 2009s will age well on their depth of fruit. Bright crimson. Scented and rather voluptuous. Here is fruit that seems to stand up to the Méo oak! Fresh and vibrant and upright and delivers lots of (very slightly oaky) pleasure. Lots of sweetness. Very clean and refreshing. (JR)
