This is one of the stars in the portfolio of Jean-Philippe Janoueix. Usually dominated by a high percentage of Merlot (70%), the 2012 has an inky purple color followed by sweet cassis and licorice notes interwoven with black cherry, earth, vanilla and spice. Opulent, medium to full-bodied, and impressively endowed (14.5% alcohol), there’s no reason to hesitate in drinking this wine, although it will certainly be better following 5-7 years of bottle age and will last for 15 or more.
Fine, dark-fruited restraint on the nose. Savoury, dense and dry, fine dry tannins and still fresh. Concentrated but not heavy. Long too. (JH)
