The 2001 La Pointe is slightly deeper in color compared to the previous vintage, displaying less aging on the rim. The bouquet is fresh and more focused and delineated. Scents of blackberry, Seville orange marmalade and dried herbs (sage and a touch of oregano) meld together nicely. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, more pliant than the 2000, framing peppery black fruit mixed with white pepper and clove. Delivering good body and gentle grip, this 2001 is maturing with grace. Tasted at the La Pointe vertical.

This charming, open-knit 2001 is a fine effort for this Pomerol estate. Its terroir will never produce huge wines, but this deep ruby/purple-colored offering possesses medium body, excellent ripeness, and seductive black cherry, plum, and currant flavors. Enjoy it over the next 7-8 years.
Very deep crimson. Rich, sleek and satisfying on the nose. Acidity more marked than some, but a fragrant pleasure. Pretty dry end. (JR)
