Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2006-2012, Robert Parker, Apr 2006

This seriously run property, located on a plateau not far from Fronsac, is planted with 83% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. It is run by Vincent and Beatrice Rapin, whose father owns Ferrand-Lartigue. A sleeper of the vintage, the 2003 Valmengaux is a modern-styled, richly fruity claret with plenty of new oak characteristics, a beautiful texture, good weight to its blackberry and cassis fruit, and fine purity as well as depth. It should drink well for 5-6 years.

Punteggio 14/20 · Da bere 2006-2008, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2005

Bit of greenness and lots of acidity – almost Italian in style. I know I have complained of a lack of acidity and freshness in many 2003s but this tastes almost too tart. (JR)

Punteggio 87-90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2004

Saturated medium ruby. Very ripe aromas of blackcurrant, licorice, game and espresso. Fat, dense and sweet, with currant and leather flavors. Has the texture to buffer its building tannins. Serious, structured wine with good persistence. Carries the simple Bordeaux appellation.
