Punteggio 86/100 · Da bere 2023-2030, Neal Martin, Aug 2023

The 2003 Gloria has a mixture of red and black fruit, truffle and leather. There's a little more freshness here than some of its peers that are beginning to dry out. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery red fruit, ferrous and a bit austere towards the finish. Drink soon. Tasted at the château.

Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2022-2038, Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux, Nov 2022

The last few Pauillac 2003s that I have tasted have been surprisingly young, but St Julien's Gloria is showing some evolution, more in keeping with the expected 20 year point of this drought year. It's attactive, gentle, ash, soot and campfire, with remnants of the heat of the vintage in its turmeric and saffron spice, and the fruit majoring on brambled fig and wild strawberry. Earthy, perhaps a touch of brett. 45% new oak, harvest September 16 to 22, with a low yield. Remi di Constanzo technical director.

Year in and year out, there is rarely a better wine for the money than this dark garnet Gloria. The 2003 reveals a terrific nose of forest floor, cedarwood, Christmas fruitcake, spice box, black currants and cherries. The tannins are well-integrated, sweet and round. Medium-bodied, juicy, fresh and lively, this fully mature 2003 can be enjoyed over the next several years.

Gloria

The modest Ch. Gloria was only created in the 1940s, when Henri Martin – a cooper – purchased some vines. With parcels dotted in amongst the region’s Classed Growths, it produces impressive wines. Today it's managed by Vanessa and Jean Triaud (Henri Martin’s granddaughter and grandson-in-law).
