Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2023-2033, Neal Martin, Dec 2023

The 1970 Gloria is a wine that I had not tasted for many years. To my surprise, it actually charms nearly every guest at this dinner. It has a fresh and well-defined nose with light black fruit, wild hedgerow and leather notes, which are nicely focused and joyful. Likewise, whereas I expected the palate to be a bit dour, it has an uncommon elegance among older vintages of Gloria with a skip in its step on the finish. Just a thoroughly delightful, mature Saint-Julien.

Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 1988, Robert Parker, Jan 1998

Another triumphant success for Gloria, the 1970 is richer and fuller than the lovely 1971, with longer-term keeping possibilities. Dark ruby color with some amber at the edge, with a fully mature bouquet of sweet fruit, cedar, and a spicy, vanillin oakiness, this wonderful, rich, fruity, medium-bodied wine remains impressive. The finish is gentle and soft. This is a voluptuous, decadently fruity Gloria. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 1/88.

Gloria

The modest Ch. Gloria was only created in the 1940s, when Henri Martin – a cooper – purchased some vines. With parcels dotted in amongst the region’s Classed Growths, it produces impressive wines. Today it's managed by Vanessa and Jean Triaud (Henri Martin’s granddaughter and grandson-in-law).
