After a slightly worrying nose, showing mustiness that bears a resemblance to taint, there is beautiful conviction and definition on the palate – self-assured, soft, balanced, dry and incredibly well preserved. Tight-knit and mature but still going strong – has the wisdom of age, and that first suspicious aroma seems to reduce with air. (RH)

Disgorged February 2003. Deep gold. Not as frank as the Churchill 1996 but zesty and savoury. Autumn leaves. Drying out a bit. I prefer the magnum of Vintage 1993. Tense. Dry finish. (JR)
Disgorged 12 feb 03. Exactly the same colour as the 1995. Much more evolved on the nose than the 1995 – seriously interesting. Very dense with some green notes. Hint of damp plaster! Very fine and dense and uplifting. Great race! Very good. Great balance. Not massive in the way that 1990 is massive but a very fine wine – especially for drinking now. This is the surprise of the range. (JR)
Bracing, youthful aromas of lime, minerals, menthol and stone; pure and subtle. An urgent, vibrant, very dry Champagne that shows remarkable power and thrust in the context of its vintage. Very concentrated, tactile wine, with brisk citrus, almond and mineral flavors really clinging to the palate on the very long, lemony aftertaste. This brand-new release is still quite unevolved yet its components are already well organized.
