Fascinating nose, real complexity and changing in the glass with sweet dark fruit, hints of soy and black pepper. This is big on the palate, spices, cloves, rich fruit concentration and highly structured tannins – monumental in fact and still so young, but very inviting as the structure frames the opulence of the fruit, hinting at great things to come. Long on the finish with hints of juniper berries, both sweet and savoury spice. Fascinating and will be incredibly exciting to follow.

The 2010 exhibits plenty of blueberry and mocha-infused black cherry fruit with a hint of candied caramel. It is well-made, medium to full-bodied, with outstanding purity, texture and richness. It is not a blockbuster Pomerol, by any means, but one of mid-weight style and undeniable elegance. The sweetness of the tannin should ensure that it can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years.||This wine always has more potential than what usually shows up in the bottle, but the Bourotte family seems to be making improvements to this small estate of approximately 15 acres planted with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Clos du Clocher is a Pomerol estate owned by the Bourotte family of the négociant Jean-Baptiste Audy. In the heart of the famous Pomerol plateau, under the shadow of the eponymous church bell tower, this 5.9-hectare estate is home to some truly ancient vines that produce tremendous wine.
