The 2007 La Dominique is a little green and herbaceous on the nose. It feels rather dour and lacks charm. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly gritty tannin, a sour cherry note mixed with mint and spices, yet it cuts away short and does not feel inviting on the hollow finish. I wonder if more selection should have been done at the time? Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

Mid ruby. Light and fresh and well balanced on the nose. But it does fade afterwards. A bit sour. Rough tannins. (JR)
How good it is to see this property come back so strongly as it was one of my favorite purchases in 1982, 1989, and 1990. A blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc assembled by the -bad boy- of St.-Emilion, Jean-Luc Thunevin, who consults here along with Michel Rolland's top lieutenant, Jean-Philippe Fort, the dense, concentrated 2007 La Dominique is showing far better out of bottle than it did in cask. It boasts a deep ruby/purple hue along with notes of black raspberries, cedar, roasted herbs, and barbecue smoke. With superb richness, luscious fruit, terrific purity, and an endearing texture, it should drink well over the next 5-7 years.
Attractively aromatic and open on the nose – fresh black fruit and a fine herbal note. On the palate, well balanced, juicy though tannins are dry and fine. Finishes fresh. (JH)

This 29-hectare estate’s site speaks for itself, neighbouring Cheval Blanc, Figeac, Evangile and La Conseillante at the northwestern edge of Saint-Emilion, where the appellation meets Pomerol.
