The 2003 La Dominique has never really passed muster. You know, the bouquet is not as bad as I presumed given the heat of that summer. It is not complex but there is no warmth of alcohol and more delineation than I expected. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, and decent tobacco-tinged red fruit. The freshness and acidity on the finish deserve a polite round of applause. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

This seductive 2003 possesses a dark garnet color, soft, berry, earthy fruit, ripe tannin and a fully mature style. Consume this medium-bodied, charming red over the next few years.
Dense ruby. Muddy nose, a bit indistinct. Jagged acidity. Very unintegrated tannins. Slightly green. (JR)
Deep crimson with some evolution. Strange nose – very smudgy and rather animal. Very very ripe and then really tough, unintegrated tannins. Dry and hot finish. Extremely awkward. (JR)
