The 2001 La Dominique has a fresh, vivacious bouquet with liquorice-tinged red fruit, orange zest and cloves, lighter on its feet than the 2000 although not as powerful. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, a crisp bead of acidity, a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with truffle, smoke and clove, with great precision and persistence on the finish that feels long and tender. This is ageing with panache and style. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

Very glowing brick rim. Round and juicy and confident with a beginning, middle and end. Lively. Fresh fruity finish. There is some freshness here – unlike most of this flight. (JR)
Very big and beefy on the nose. The first bottle was dangerously volatile and the second bottle was not totally different. To be drunk sooner rather than later I think, this flamboyant brute. (JR)
