Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2019-2024, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1997 La Dominique has a respectable bouquet for the vintage with dusty red berry fruit, tobacco and just a hint of greenness. The palate is fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity. It feels harmonious with fine tannin, earthy, tobacco-stained red fruit with a scintilla of dryness on the brief but fresh finish. This is a very decent Saint-Émilion given this is an off vintage. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.

Each time this attractive, open-knit, delicious wine is tasted, it reminds me of how many chateaux blundered in pricing this consumer/restaurant friendly vintage more expensively than 1996 and 1995. La Dominque's 1997 is a savory offering for drinking over the next 5-7 years. This wine, from an estate situated on the Pomerol border, adjacent to Cheval Blanc, offers abundant quantities of sweet, toasty oak as well as jammy black cherries and raspberries in its moderately intense aromatics. Medium body, low acidity, and admirable flesh and fruit result in a delightful St.-Emilion.

A fresh and pure red with mineral, cherry and violet character. Medium- to full-bodied, with a solid core of velvety tannins and a long mineral aftertaste. Serious wine. Drink now through 2002.James Suckling, Wine Spectator 2000
