As I have indicated in previous Bordeaux reports, this estate is one of the up and coming stars of Pomerol. The well-situated vineyard adjacent to Petrus is capable of producing splendid wines, and, in fact, has done so since the 1990 vintage. Moreover, Gazin has been especially consistent in Bordeaux's more difficult years (i.e., 1992 and 1993). One of the vintage's finest efforts, this dark-colored wine possesses an impressive set of aromatics, including scents of black-raspberries, cherries, mocha, and Provencal olives. Deep and dense, with surprising fatness and glycerin for a 1993, this is a lush, expansively-flavored, medium-bodied, pure, rich, concentrated 1993 that should offer gorgeous drinking for 10-12+ years. Given the vintage's reputation, this should be one of the more affordable wines from Bordeaux.

Pretty Merlot character here, offering tobacco, cherry and olive aromas and flavors, medium to full body, good fruit and a medium-tannic finish. Better in 1997. -James Suckling, Wine Spectator 1996
