Tasted blind. Just a little stodgy and chunky. Hard work! After some juicy fruit. (JR)

An estate that continues to punch above its weight, the 2021 Château La Lagune sports a deep ruby/plum hue as well as a terrific bouquet of ripe black fruits, cassis, graphite, and scorched earth. One of the most serious, concentrated, age-worthy Haut-Médocs in the vintage, it has medium-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mid-palate, background oak, and ripe tannins. Give it 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade or more. This is one that's well worth seeking out.

The 2021 La Lagune put in a decent showing out of barrel. I tasted it from two bottles, the first rejected as it felt slightly corked. The second is fresher with blackberry and raspberry fruit, cedar and light cigar box scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, berry and graphite notes and some attenuation toward the finish. Nonetheless, it is a decent, classically styled La Lagune that will hopefully gain more weight with bottle age.

The 2021 La Lagune is a bold, expressive wine. Macerated dark cherry, tobacco, gravel, incense, cured meats, licorice and worn-in leather give the 2021 notable complexity. A wine of gravitas and brooding depth, this La Lagune is impeccably done. Very fine.
