The 2024 Viognier mixes savory herbs with crushed rocks and a whiff of sea air before giving way to crushed peaches. It is soothingly round yet mineral intense, with perfumed white pit fruits contrasted by a sharp citrus twang. This leaves a pretty inner sweetness while tapering off with a salty flourish further enhanced by a bump of juicy acidity. This is a gorgeous example of mountain fruit Viognier.

The 2024 York Mountain Viognier is a fantastic expression of York Mountain, opening with a cleansing, perfumed bouquet of lavender, citrus curd and beeswax with an orchard fruited backdrop. The palate is broad, soft and supple yet lined with invigorated acidity that carries through the focused, refined and gently honeyed finish. It includes 4% Roussanne and was fermented and matured for seven months in a mix of 27% new barrique and puncheon.
Fresh stone fruits, orange blossoms, and white flowers all emerge from the 2024 Viognier, which shows a medium-bodied, fresh, lively, impressively pure style on the palate. It has tons of Viognier character in a slightly fresher, vibrant, pure style that has tons to love. This is one of the few New World Viogniers that you can cellar for 4-5 years. Drink 2025-2030. Winemaker Jordan Fiorentini continues to keep Epoch Estate at the top of the hierarchy in Paso Robles. She makes a bevy of wines, all of which are from their estate Paderewski, Catapult, and York Mountain vineyards. While the 2022s clearly rank with the top wines of the vintage, I think her 2023s might be even better. Readers can’t go wrong with any of these, and Jordan’s wines always shine for their purity, vibrancy, and balance while staying true to Paso Robles with ripe, sexy levels of fruit.
