Deep ruby-red. Very ripe but not at all roasted on the nose, offering sappy aromas of crushed black cherry, boysenberry and violet. Full, sweet and very ripe but a bit monolithic--even brutal--after the Estournelles, hiding more than it's showing today. Finishes with substantial dusty, mouthcoating tannins that will require patience. I find this wine tough going, but I would not be at all surprised if it merited a higher score ten years from now.

Cask sample. Mid to deep crimson. Layered and textured, fruit and tannin in harmony already. Fragrant and fresh. Not clearly grand cru but it does have both elegance and persistence. (JH)
Deep ruby-red. Knockout nose combines boysenberry, blackberry, espresso, licorice and crushed rock. The sweetest of these 2015s on entry but quite closed in the middle palate despite its supple texture and sweet oak element. Very dense and fine-grained but still quite primary. This very deep Charmes finishes perfumed and long, with a suggestion of chocolatey ripeness leavened by violet perfume. This wine is even more structured than usual but it's not hard.
