A cuvée that was first made in 1989, the 2019 Proprietary Red Blend is based on 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Cabernet Franc that was fermented in a combination of concrete, 500-liter barrels, and stainless steel, spending 52 days on skins. It has wonderful purity in its cassis and redcurrant-like fruits as well as complex notes of tobacco leaf, currant bud, violets, and chocolate. Full-bodied on the palate, it has rock-solid structure, ripe tannins, and a great finish. The finest vintage of this cuvée I’ve tasted, it deserves 3-5 years in the cellar and will keep for two decades.

The 2019 Red Blend Viader is composed of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it soars from the glass with evocative crème de cassis, candied violets, chocolate box and fragrant earth scents, plus redcurrant jelly and mulberries with a waft of unsmoked cigars. Medium to full-bodied in the mouth, the fruit is wonderfully crunchy, bright and energetic, supported by ripe, grainy tannins and finishing with great length.
Blackberries, dried herbs, earth, mocha and cloves on the nose. Full-bodied with firm, plush tannins. Chalky and concentrated with a polished core of dark fruit and a chewy, chocolatey finish. Firm and powerful. A blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon and 42% cabernet franc. Drink from 2024.
