The 1999 Syrah Paragon Vineyard (8% Zinfandel and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon are included in the blend) displays a textbook bouquet of blackberries, smoke, earth, and pepper with additional scents of hickory and barbecue spices. It reveals tangy acidity from the cooler than normal vintage. Aged in a combination of old and new French oak, this well-made, medium-bodied 1999 exhibits an aggressive edge to its acidity.
