This is fresh and lively on the nose – with crunchy blackberry, toasted spice and a little blackcurrant leaf. The palate also shows great freshness, with red fruit and a hint of black pepper, mellow tannins and a sweet-fruited finish. Aged in 40% new oak. Blend: 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 14% Petit Verdot

A brilliant Pessac-Léognan, the 2023 Château Latour-Martillac offers ripe black cherries, cassis, and smoky herbs as well as chocolate and tobacco nuances on the nose. Based on 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, and 13% Petit Verdot and aged 14 months in 35% new oak, it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, layered, graceful mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and outstanding length. It's beautifully done and well worth seeking out. It offers ample pleasure today yet has enough tannins to warrant just 4-5 years of bottle age. It’s going to cruise for two decades in cold cellars. Tasted multiple times. Drink 2030-2050.

The 2023 Latour-Martillac offers lovely juiciness and immediacy. Super-ripe black cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and chocolate fill out the layers. There's gorgeous depth and density here, but readers should expect a pretty opulent style. Tasted two times.

The 2023 Latour-Martillac has quite a voluminous bouquet with blackberry, violet and black olive scents, becoming increasingly floral with aeration. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with finely sculpted tannins, beautifully balanced with a harmonious, silky-smooth finish. This is better than the white and should age gracefully in bottle.
