Harvested a touch earlier than the 2009, with slightly less saignée (there was 20% saignée in 2009), the 2010 Gigondas le Lieu Dit is another full-bodied, rich, thrillingly concentrated red that offers a meaty, intense bouquet of dark fruits, licorice, garrigue and cured meats. Still a baby, with a youthful ruby color, give bottles 2-3 years and drink over the following decade or more.

Vivid purple. Sexy red fruit liqueur, lavender and incense aromas, with a subtle smoky nuance in the background. Fleshy and vivacious flavors of raspberry and cherry with a touch of bitter rhubarb. Closes on a sappy note, with appealing sweetness, excellent length and only a hint of tannins.
(95% grenache and 5% syrah): Bright violet color. Highly fragrant nose offers an exotic array of red berry, kirsch, incense and floral scents. Sappy raspberry and cherry flavors show very good depth and impressive energy, with supple tannins adding grip. Spiciness builds on the long, juicy finish, which repeats the red berry note.
Dull dark crimson. Sweet ripe cherry fruit on a pretty intense nose. Round and silky. Very pretty. Delivers pure maraschino pleasure with just a bit of tannin and acid underneath. Not a heavyweight but great balance and nice length. (JR)
