The 2024 Stromberg GG shows subtle reduction on the nose but also ripe, elegant and very juicy fruit with delicate honey tones and typical spice from the volcanic soil. Elegant and delicate on the palate, with considerable body, this is a very mineral, compactly structured, long, intense and powerful-finishing Riesling that still needs a lot of time to develop. A beautiful smoky nose gives way to a wild herbal spice, with the savoury, high-toned lift of wild mint and rosemary. Piercingly bright lime counters the paucity of other fruit on the palate, even as the wine grows simultaneously expansive and elegant. Still quite closed. (PS)
What amazing spiciness this very concentrated and deeply structured Nahe GG has. On the sleek but driving medium-bodied palate there’s so much minerality, as well as juicy grapefruit and Amalfi lemons. Super-long and precise finish that takes your breath away. Drink or hold.
The 2024 Riesling Bockenauer Stromberg Grosses Gewächs was largely made from 100-year-old vines (Fröhlich's oldest) rooted in porphyry. Its flinty reduction is perfumed with crushed passion fruit foliage and chervil. This has sinus-clearing lift and absolute poise. The palate is taut, bright and concentrated, with an immense zestiness of tangerine and grapefruit notes. They tingle with aroma and yet this has the firmest, sveltest core. The 2024 is thrilling, pure, long, pervasive and otherworldly. (Bone-dry)
