The 2016 Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru vies with the 2010 (a wine it resembles) as the most inherently complex, complete and age-worthy wine in this vertical tasting. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of red berries, cassis, exotic spices, rose petals and blood orange, it's full-bodied, concentrated and layered, with terrific concentration, racy acids and beautifully refined, powdery tannins. Still an infant, it will require patience to realize all of its considerable potential.

(Dugat had normal production of two barrels): Bright, full red. Alluring perfume of raspberry, flowers, spices and licorice. The densest of all of these 2016s but also with wonderful detail and fine-grained texture to its lightly saline flavors of raspberry, flowers, soil and minerals. There's nothing hard or heavy about this lovely sappy grand cru, which finishes with superb palate-cleansing length. This fruit was picked at 12.2% potential alcohol and not chaptalized, said Dugat, "but the bottle will say 12.5% in order not to shock people."
