Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2019-2025, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jun 2017

60-year-old vines. 1.45 ha in the lieux-dits Les Charmes and Corcelette, planted at 280-420 m. South and south-west exposure. Pink granite soils. Indigenous yeasts. No sulphur. Carbonic maceration for 10 days and semi-carbonic for 10 days. Aged in 228-litre barrels for 8-11 months on fine lees. Lightish ruby. Complex, meaty, 'natural' in that meatiness. Unusual flavours on the palate – that meaty quality but also light in red fruits and even a touch of something sweet like caramel. Chewy, satisfying, not typically Morgon, perhaps, or not what most people expect from the cru? (JH)

The 2015 Morgon has a fresh bouquet with attractive red cherry and raspberry fruit, a little leafiness here, cold stone coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, nicely focused, less fruit-driven than many other Morgon 2015s but it compensates with superb delineation and more terroir expression. There is a tang of salinity towards the finish that lingers long in the mouth.
