Note di degustazione
A clonal selection between the Machado and Hapgood sites, the 2022 Pinot Noir 459 gives off aromas of dark fruits, bright spices and tobacco leaves on the nose. The decadent, luscious palate is lined with balancing acidity, concluding with a ripe, robust finish framed by drying tannins. While decidedly on the more powerful side, a lifted quality to the finish brings this into balance, although it is best enjoyed on the early side.

The 2022 Pinot Noir 459 is more fruit-driven, with both cherry and framboise notes interwoven with beautiful floral, rose petal, and sappy herb-like aromas and flavors. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, pure, seamless 2022 that has polished tannins, a lively, elegant mouthfeel, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It picks up a kiss of classic Sta. Rita Hills salinity and marine-like nuances with time in the glass, but this is one for those who just love that pure, floral, clean Pinot Noir fruit. It will keep for 15 years. 296 cases.
The 2022 Pinot Noir 459 emerges from blocks in Machado and Hapgood planted with Jura clone. It offers lovely aromatic presence to play off its generally lighter personality. I find the finish a bit short. Otherwise, it’s nicely done.
